According to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated one billion valentine cards are sent each year, making Valentine's Day the second largest card sending holiday of the year. (Christmas is the biggest...) Now that being said, approximately 85 percent of all valentines are purchased by women. I find this to be very interesting! Some speculate than the majority of men actually buy their sweetie a gift and therefor feel the "paper pretty" isn't necesary. And males do tend to spend more money on Valentine's Day gifts than do females. They are also more likely to buy big-ticket items...the average amount spent being $95.00. I suppose I would prefer a giant box of chocolates or a cute sweater to a card any day (wink)
