Welcome May!

May is here and we have several great holidays coming up! I'm not biased or anything, it's not like I have a specific interest in May 11th, which happens to be Mother's Day - oh wait, I do! And what kid isn't excited about Memorial Day - or the opening of most pools? (minus those who don't swim...) That was one of my favorite holidays growing up - if for no other reason than that's when the pool was finally open. Never mind that the water was still a little chilly...

Since the first week of May is only three days, we'll take a quick look at the first week and a half. (I missed getting this posted at the end of April, so forgive my lateness on mentioning the first holiday.)

May 1st is May Day
May 5th is Cinco de Mayo
May 6th is National Teacher's Day
(and on a personal note and reminder to myself, my sister's birthday!)
May 8th is VE Day, WWII

And that's just the "big" holidays in the first week! May also has it's share of bizzare holidays - which may or may not be recognized as national, but someone, somewhere came up with them, so why not enjoy them!

So far in May, we've passed the holidays of: May 1st is Loyalty Day, Mother Goose Day, Space Day, and Save the Rhino Day. I'll have to look into this Mother Goose day a little more since my little boy is finally showing interest in books (hurray!) May 2nd is Baby Day, Brothers and Sisters Day, and International Tuba Day. A holiday for tubas - go figure...

Tomorrow, May 3rd is Lumpy Rug Day and World Press Freedom Day. Now that's a holiday I can get behind - the Press Freedom one, not the lumpy rug one. I'm a big believer in freedom of speech and press. Even if I don't agree with you, I don't want your speech or expression to be limited because then it's only a little while before mine is limited as well. And as much as anyone may want to shut someone up, they never want the same restriction put on them!

So get ready - we're just getting started with May's holidays!
