I'm sitting here watching The Corpse Bride, thinking of all the Halloween specials I've seen advertised as coming on recently that I've not been able to watch because for some reason or another they weren't suitable for a toddler. (I'm only getting away with watching this one because my son is napping!) There are a few that I like to catch every year, and I'll be glad when I can share them with our kids. I don't typically watch anything really scary, I never grew up watching horror movies, so that's not really my thing. But still, I just don't think it's a good idea to have a not-quite-two year old watch something that would be potentially scary - such as animated corpses with their eyeballs popping out because of a maggot living behind it.. (if you've seen The Corpse Bride, you know what I'm talking about!)
There's also a double feature of the two Scooby-Doo movies playing tonight, I'm trying to decide if either of those is acceptable for us to have playing while he's up... Somehow I think we'd be better off if I could find "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown," so maybe I'll keep channel surfing. In the meantime, we're also getting ready to host a Halloween playdate at our house this coming Wednesday with some other moms and kids in our neighborhood, and at last count, we've got seven people who have RSVP'ed, which means we'll have 14 people in the house! I think I'll have to clear out some of his larger toys to make room for all the kids!
I'm trying to not get caught up in planning enough food to feed an army - it's a family thing I'm afraid. We tend to overdo the cooking... Last time I hosted a playdate we had food and food and food. I also want to get together little gift bags for the kids to take home, but it's been harder than I thought to get together a few small (and inexpensive) things for toddlers - a lot of stuff out there is geared for older kids. I guess the point is just to have everyone over and have a good time!
After the playdate, we've got a Trunk-or-Treat at a local church that we're planning to go to on Thursday, since the school next door to the church will be using their parking lot on Friday night for a football game. For the actual day of Halloween, we don't actually have anything planned, so we may just be hanging out at home that evening. I have a feeling that we'll make a trip through both my old office and my husband's current workplace to show off our cute little boy in his costume. That should be plenty of fun for him - and plenty of running around!
Now after we finish up with Halloween, we've got just a few short weeks before Thanksgiving - Yikes!
