The retail industry never stops, does it? Christmas and New Year’s is barely over, and we’re already bombarded with Valentine’s Day paraphernalia. I went into a store the other day hoping to check out some of their Christmas clearance, and I suppose I should have known better, but the aisles that were just days before stuffed with Christmas goodies were now half empty, and half filled with heart-shaped boxes of candy.
Don’t get me wrong – ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you that I’m all about candy, but I’ve not had time to recuperate from the previous holiday! Oh well, I guess I’d better get up to speed and hang on because the retailers aren’t going to change their pace any time soon!
One of my most favorite memories from Valentine’s Day growing up was that my dad always got my mom, sister and I a box of chocolates. I know that may sound typical, but there was just something so special about being a little girl and knowing every year that my dad, who isn’t really a shopper, was going to make a special trip out, just for us.
Even now that I’m grown and married, he still keeps up the tradition. I think it was just last year I almost cried because, not only had he remembered, but he had stopped by my house early that morning and left the box of chocolates in my car. I went out to go to work and found them on my front seat. It made my day. I don’t know that he’ll ever know just how much his little tradition means to me…
Hopefully we can build a tradition like that with my new family. The first few years we were married, my husband would always bring me flowers at work. He’d take a little time off in the morning and deliver them himself. That was really special, especially the first year we were married. Now that we’ve moved and our jobs are different, that doesn’t work out quite as well, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what new traditions we can come up with. I guess I’ve got about a month to come up with something spectacular!

I can't belive that the stores are already "plump" full of Valentines goodies! Oh and I agree with you there's nothing quite as sweet as those heart shaped boxes of chocolates! My Mom always bought one for the bunch of us as well. How nice to know you're loved :)
