Today we celebrate our sisters!

Today, the first Sunday in August, is Sister's Day. This holiday is pretty special for me since I've become pretty close to my sister over the past few years. Although she's younger than me by four years, we're finding we have more and more in common. I've been married for 8 years and have just recently had a son who is now 6 months old. She's been married for a little over 2 years and has two sons, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old. She's had a hard road, but it's nice that we can share with each other. I can give her advice on marriage and she gives me advice on parenting!

The sad thing for me is that my family has always been pretty close and they're all very important to me, but my sister and her family live in a different town. Now granted, it's only about 45 minutes away, but with two small children, those 45 minutes seem like a lot longer. Not to mention that we're both working to run our households on one income, so we're both a little short on money when we do want to get together for lunch. (We do fast food a lot!)

On the other hand, the good news is that she and her husband are talking about building on the same driveway as the rest of us! Yes, you read right, I live on the same driveway as my parents, as well as my grandmother on my dad's side. Don't misunderstand, we all have a good bit of privacy, my parents and I both are surrounded by woods. (Having my family so close is such a blessing, especially now that I have a baby!) I hope they can get it worked out soon so she can take advantage of having the support of family so near.

Oh, and I also have a great sister-in-law, who unfortunately is a little over 20 hours away. She's getting married this December and I can't wait to see them again. I hate that we can only see them once a year, but the trip is a little hard to make on the weekend!

So today, I celebrate my sister; I celebrate my family.
