I grew up in a family where we really didn't do much for Halloween. I really want to do the holidays up big for our kids, so I'm trying to work on creating new traditions for our family to keep. I think I've found a really good one. Two years ago, our family took a trip to a local pumpkin patch and it was pretty fun, so we went again this year and it was such a success! When we went two years ago, it was with my sister and her two boys and my mom. The funny thing is that the first time we went, I was expecting my son, and this time, I'm expecting again! (Hope that doesn't hold as a prediction for next year! I think a few years between #2 and #3 is a good idea...)
My youngest nephew was only a few months old, and it was kind of a dreary, overcast and cold day, so this year's trip was a much better success. The weather was gorgeous, and my dad went with us this time. The boys were all old enough to walk themselves, and they had a ball running around in the pumpkin patch. My son in particular thought it was a lot of fun, since all the pumpkins looked like big balls to him - one of his favorite things! The only problem was the pumpkin vines stretched all over the place and he isn't quite old enough to watch out for them, and he kept tripping over them! But he was a trooper!
The pumpkin patch also had a snack bar - but they were completely sold out of ice cream by the time we got there, so we stopped at Cold Stone Creamery on the way home (another nice treat!), and the boys had a lot of fun, and I'm sure it's safe to say the rest of us did too!
Currently our pumpkins are still sitting out on the front porch... I suppose we need to get them carved soon, but somehow that's always a lot harder than it seems like it should be! We got one big one to carve, and a small one for our son, and somehow when we were unloading at home, we had an extra small one... Wonder how that happened?
