Second week of September holidays

Oh no! Is it that time already! This week's holidays include my husband's favorite, and my not-so-favorite "Video Game Day!" His parents love to give him a hard time about his love for video games. I remember a story they've told about how they had to take his games away from him because he wouldn't stop playing them when some out-of-town relatives came to visit and they were trying to get him to go outside and play with the cousin his age.

Now that he's older, we have more video-game related stories, such as how he's sat in line outside Best Buy all night long for a game release or a games system release. Or, there's the time we flew to see his family and we had to unpack a carry-on because it had his X-Box in it - complete with 4 controllers, which also meant tons of wires. The guy at the checkpoint wanted to know what all the wires were for. (Of course, this had to be soon after the security was upped after 9-11.)

At my house we have a Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, 4 (count them! 2 regular, 2 modded) X-Boxes, 2 (yes, 2 of these too) X-Box 360s, and 2 Nintendo Wii's (we bought one and he won one in a drawing - that one was a surprise!). So, if you haven't gotten the point yet, video games are one of the big past times here at our home. Unfortunately, due to work and life in general, he doesn't get to play them much, so I guess I really can't begrudge him a day to celebrate something he enjoys so much. Maybe I should embrace the holiday and start a celebration of our own here. You know, kind of like the superbowl, with snacks and everything? The only problem with that is that there are so many people playing online these days that they may not want to actually leave their own homes to come out to ours. Oh well, we'll see how it goes!

Here are the other holidays to celebrate this week:

September 8: International Literacy Day
National Date Nut Bread Day
Pardon Day

September 9: Teddy Bear Day

September 10: Sewing Machine Day
Swap Ideas Day

September 11: Make Your Bed Day
No News is Good News Day

September 12: Chocolate Milk Shake Day
National Video Games Day
