Red, pink, or white roses?

62_Garden_Paradise.jpg A rose is a rose, right? Well, maybe not. According to the California Cut Flower Commission , the traditional red rose of Valentine’s Day is slowly falling out of favor as roses of other colors become more popular. Apparently, women are finally voicing their affection for roses of different colors, regardless of the typical idea that a red rose says “I love you.”

Don’t misunderstand, the red rose isn’t on it’s way out, it’s just not dominating the flower market quite as strongly as it has in the past. In 1995, 85% of the roses purchased were red. This past year, that number had gone down to a mere 64%. So what does that mean? Well, mainly, more choices! Some colors that are becoming more readily available are raspberry pink, smooth cream, a dark velvety red, “Bull's Eye,” (a rich velvet red), and “Pole Position,” a medium red.

If you ask me, I don’t know that I really care what color I get, just bring on the flowers!
