Planning your Halloween costume?

You would think that picking out a costume for an almost-two-year-old wouldn't be a big deal. But somehow, I was struck by my indecision about what to dress my son as this year. He's not quite old enough to get the whole dress-up for fun and candy idea, but he does have preferences. He loves balls, and he loves cars. But, you can't really dress a kid as a ball or a car... but those are his favorite things. He also loves the cartoon Kipper (a dog), but Kipper isn't a popular enough character to have costumes of him available. So, I really wanted to make his costume something that would relate to who he is and what he enjoys at this stage, but was kind of at a loss.

That was something else that got me - growing up, my grandmother made a lot of our costumes, so I really hated to have to buy a costume, but I'm not a seamstress, so what else can I do? Anyway, it would figure that my son would find a bright red costume that was a pit crew outfit that was for the Cars movie. It came with a cap and a little headset piece. Needless to say, that was a little much for a 20-month old, and the smallest size they had was a 3, so that wasn't going to work anyway. But, that didn't stop him from carrying it around the store!

When we got home, I decided to try again at our local Toys R Us store. I found a similar outfit in blue, not quite as dynamic, but it had Lightning McQueen on the leg of the outfit. It was enough to catch his attention, after all, there was a car on it! So, despite the fact that it wasn't something that I saw and immediately fell in love with, my son seems to be happy with it, so that's really all that matters. I thought that maybe I'd try to find a large car for him to carry around with him; Avon had some stuffed character pillows, one of which was Lightning McQueen from Cars, and that would be perfect! Anyway, I guess I'm not the only one who puts a lot of thought into costumes, although I probably won't be dressing up myself this year. What kind of costumes are there out there for pregnant women? There are so many options, but you can't deny that each year there are different "favorites." This year, if you want your kid/kidsto go with something popular, or if you want to try to be more original, consider these. The top 10 costumes as rated by ShindigZ, a popular party supply store are: a mermaid, Indiana Jones, Clonetrooper Rex Deluxe, Sharpay from High School Musical, a glittery mermaid, Anakin Skywalker, Hannah Montana, Pikachu, Iron Man, and Darth Vader.

I completely understand the movie/TV show themes, and I'm not surprised at all at how popular they seem to be. I'm really tickled that the "most popular" costumes for kids don't seem to be too grown-up for the kids. I'm not looking forward to the day that I have to tell my daughter that she can't wear something because it's not appropriate...
