Planning our Halloween party - a little early!

There are so many fun ways to celebrate Halloween, I can't wait until my little boy is old enough to enjoy them! I hope I can be one of those moms who throws neat parties and has games and snacks that wow everyone, but I guess I need to be realistic. Sure, my family is known for going overboard when cooking for any kind of function, but I don't know that that fact translates into "throws great parties." In truth, I've never thrown a party in my life - if you don't count a few baby showers. But, there's always a first time for everything!

I love the DIY Network. I'm a big fan of all of their home improvement shows, but I also love their crafting and other, well, do-it-yourself programs. I've recently started checking out their web site to see what else they've got going on, and I found that they've got a lot of neat ideas for Halloween. (I know, no surprise there!) Now this is just the sort of thing I hope to do when Seth starts having parties of his own. Caramel apples and witch hat ice cream cones. That's just neat!

They even have a great section of "how to" videos for party novices like me to check out. There's carving a pumpkin, making costumes, decorating for a party and witch crafts. And, as you can guess, they've even scheduled a whole hour every day as their "Witching Hour" to feature Halloween crafts. Now that I'm at home most days, this is something I'll have to take advantage of...

I guess I'm finding out that one of the keys to throwing a good party is advance planning. I tend to be a procrastinator, but if I want my parties to be a success, I guess I'll have to put a little more effort and a lot more time into them! My sister mentioned the other day that when planning her youngest son's birthday, she started planning four months in advance. FOUR months! I thought that was a bit extreme for a 1-year-old's party, but now that I'm thinking about throwing my own, I realize that maybe that's not so crazy. (Okay, maybe not four months, but you get the idea.)

So, considering my son is not quite nine months, I guess I've got some time to work on planning his first Halloween party. But in the meantime, I've got a lot of ideas to build on!
