Ornament Exchange

After work this evening, my office held our annual ornament exchange. This is one office tradition that I’ve come to enjoy and appreciate over the past few years. Not only does it save us all money, but it makes for a good excuse for us all to get together for dinner! The idea behind it is that anyone who wants to participate, and oddly enough it’s always just the women in our office, puts their name in and we draw to see who we get to buy for. We can give a hint if we have a specific theme we use or something we collect, but otherwise it’s pretty much a free-for-all. It started out as just an ornament exchange, but over time it’s become open for anything Christmas-related.

One thing I enjoy about this, and I say this in hopes that I don’t come across as sounding cheap, is that if we participate we are not supposed to buy for all the others. In an office of over 20 ladies that all work closely together, this really helps all of our Christmas budgets!

I find that I keep looking at the kinds of things that I would choose for myself, and then I have to wonder if it’s something that they would like. Since I’ve not been to any of the girl’s homes at Christmas and have no idea how they decorate, this is always an added frustration! This year, I picked out a cute Snowbabies ornament. I personally have never been overly impressed with the Snowbabies collection, but for some reason this one just caught my eye. It had the cutest angel wings with just a touch of glitter and was sitting on a cloud that said “Joy.” (I love glittery things!)

I think my co-worker liked it – everyone “oohed” and “aahed” appropriately! All of the gifts were nice. The ornament I received was the cutest Hallmark ornament. parents%20to%20be%20ornament.jpg I’ve never seen anything like it – you always see the “baby’s first Christmas” ornaments, but what about the people who are expecting, but don’t have the baby by Christmas? My coworker got me an ornament that said “Parents to Be” and has a mother hen sitting on her nest, knitting no less (I knit, a little), while the father sits beside her and reads a book about babies! How cute is that!
