Not quite a winter wonderland...yet

Tonight I had to go out well after dark to find our cat, aka The Worthless Pet. He usually is inside at night because we live with plenty of wildlife, including a fox den on our property. But tonight he decided to hang out under the porch and play deaf, so out I went to find him and bring him inside.

Beyond our back yard is a small gate, and then another street with maybe 10 houses on it. Worthless Pet likes to slink through the gate and explore the adjoining properties. Through the gate I went, and all of a sudden I was transformed from our dark house to a virtual Christmas paradise. Our neighbors must have gotten together and decided to decorate the street in glittering white lights. Every house was aglow and it looked like a beautiful New England postcard. One home had candles in every window framed by a fresh green wreath. On the door was a spectacular wreath decorated in the most lucious colors of burgandy and pink, lit up by a spotlight.

No tacky puffy plastic blowup decorations on this street. Nope, it was all filled with tiny white lights, pretty trees in the windows, and tasteful decorations highlighting the New England architecture. It was a picture of Christmas beauty that literally took my breath away.

All it needed was some snow. Alas, no snow in our forecast yet. But had it been freezing cold, the cat wouldn't have been outside, I wouldn't have walked off our hill, and I would have missed this beautful site. I only wish I had my camera with me, but it was sitting on the kitchen counter at home.
