National Quilting Day!

In keeping with National Craft Month, we can’t forget to celebrate tomorrow’s special holiday – National Quilting Day! Quilting is fast becoming as popular as scrapbooking and knitting, two of my favorite crafts! I haven’t had a chance to get into quilting as much as I’d like, actually, I’ve only made one lap quilt. (Although I’ve got at least one more lap quilt started and several more planned…)

Since June of 1991, the third Saturday of March is now officially National Quilting Day. The National Quilting Association sponsors the holiday, but quilters all over have unofficially expanded the holiday to cover the whole month of March. I guess this kind of goes hand in hand with Craft Month!

The National Quilting Association is hosting the “Happy Birthday Baby!” project – where they are inviting individuals and groups to make and donate a baby quilt to their local hospital for the first baby born on NQD. What a nice way to celebrate such a special craft! They just ask that you check with the hospital before doing so, just to make arrangements with them. Also, double check your quilt to make sure they’re baby-safe when you give them! (No pins left in, no buttons or items that could be pulled off, and maybe even wash them in baby-safe detergent)

However you choose to celebrate National Quilt Day, or month, enjoy your crafting and quilt happy!
