National Doughnut Day!

Donuts.jpg
Guess what tomorrow is? It's the first day of June! Yay! Okay, so why is it special? The first Friday of June is always National Doughnut Day. The holiday is in honor of the Salvation Army "lassies" who took part in WWI. They would go to the front lines to cook and serve the men fighting there. They often made doughnuts for the men - which they cooked in the men's helmets! (Thus the men were sometimes called doughboys.)

I figure, what better way to celebrate Doughnut Day than by going down to our local Dunkin' Dounuts and taking advantage of my coupons? Should I use the buy a dozen get 6 free or the $1.00 off 50 munchkins? Hmmm... either way I can't lose!

Not to mention that some places might even be offering promotional free doughnuts in honor of the holiday! But, if you want to get creative and are into cooking, you could always try the Salvation Army doughnut recipe! (I'd love to try it but I'm not finding much time for cooking lately - so if you try it out and love it, let me know!)
