My Birthday Wrapup

Wednesday was my birthday. Usually I'm not all that interested in my birthday, but this was a big one, and I felt strongly that a celebration of some sort was in order. As it was about 99 F in the shade, an indoor celebration was planned. But the day was ridiculous. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and by about 5 pm I was feeling that the only thing I wanted to celebrate with the invention of the shotgun. Which I planned to point at a couple of teenagers I was beginning to loathe.

Fortunately, they came through in the end and baked me a cake, cleaned up their attitudes, and we ended up having fun. But it was touch and go for a while there.

Being an adult is sometimes weird. After years of kiddie birthday parties and buying presents for every child in the eastern part of our state, I feel strange about having an adult celebration. It's just out of place in our lifestyle. But then again, I wanted cake, darn it, and I wanted it with gooey frosting and candles that I could blow out.

I didn't want or need presents. Lordy, we already own half of Ebay stock in our tiny little house. I asked for donations to be given to the charity I'm raising money for during Blogathon. And donations I got, which was really great. But I did want the recognition that I'm still around and that today was my 'special day'. So the cards and emails and ecards were all very appreciated.

For a full description of the trauma, the triumph, and the cake, come and visit my personal blog.
