More herbs, less salt please!

Considering the rise in the collective blood pressure of the world, tomorrow's holiday is a good one to celebrate - and can be fun - or at least interesting - to give you a taste of some new flavors. More Herbs, Less Salt Day is basically just a day to encourage the use of herbs and other spices in place of, or in addition to, salt. Since salt is so often over-used and can lead to high blood pressure, this sounds like a good idea to put into practice to me!

rosemary garlic.jpg What are some of your favorite spices or herbs to cook or season with? I've found that I really love this rosemary/garlic seasoning I picked up at Sam's Club one day. They had a lady on the floor with a hot plate doing a demo where they offer free samples of something they've cooked using this seasoning, and I liked it well enough to pick up one while I was there! I love the taste, but I'm a little picky about the stems of rosemary, so I usually cook with the seasoning then try to scrape off the "sticks" - I just don't like the texture. This is one of my favorite ways to cook fish.

My husband's favorite is garlic. I love garlic, but early on in my pregnancy I couldn't stand the smell. I'm getting back to where I can eat it (and smell it) again - which is great since it's one of our favorites. I'd love to branch out and try some new herbs, but don't really know much about them, and I hate to waste food by experimenting on something I don't know if we'll like or if it will be a good combination of flavors. Maybe I'll just have to suck it up and get a little more brave in the kitchen!

If you have any suggestions or favorites - please let me know!
