Memorial Day weekend additional holidays

With family in from out of town for the long weekend, the days got away from me! I missed several holidays, although I daresay none so widely known as Memorial Day. I hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend, and I hope you had a chance to thank a veteran!

Some of the less well-known holidays we celebrated over the weekend (and early this week) are:

May 25 National Missing Children's Day
25 Tap Dance Day

May 26 Sally Ride Day

May 27 Sun Screen Day

May 28 Amnesty International Day

Funny thing is when I saw "Sally Ride Day," I immediately thought of a holiday to celebrate Ford Mustangs (you know the song Mustang Sally that has the line in it "ride, Sally, ride"? That, and it seems like every guy I've ever heard of who has named their car - usually a mustang - called it "Sally.") Anyway, I looked into it just to see, and it's actually to celebrate Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. Preceded by two Soviet women, Valentina Tereshkova (1963) and Svetlana Savitskaya (1982), Dr. Ride went into space in 1983 on board the Challenger. (That's a far cry from a day celebrating Mustangs!)

Just shows how much I know... but can't you see how I'd jump to that conclusion?

Oddly enough, with every day seeming to have a specific, if not weird, holiday, tomorrow, May 29th is actually unclaimed by any such holiday. So tomorrow, kick up you feet and relax! Celebrate not having a specific something to celebrate! Who needs a reason to enjoy themselves?
