Make service a Halloween tradition

I found this really great idea for creating a new holiday tradition - this on is specific to Halloween but could be used in a similar fashion for other holidays. I love that this suggestion doesn't center around candy, and since it's service-oriented, it's even better!

Tara over at Family Traditions has posted her new idea of having "Service Spiders" at her house for Halloween. Typically, anything having to do with spiders would be an absolute "NO WAY!" but these little guys may just get a pass at our house... The basic idea behind the tradition is that each family member would take a handful of little plastic spiders and do random acts of service/kindness throughout the house for different family members. When the service was complete - say the bed made for a sibling - they would leave one of the little plastic spiders.

Check out her post for a more detailed account of what happened at her house when she implemented the new tradition. It's a great story of family jumping in and embracing not only new traditions, but the chance to do something nice for each other. Who knows, maybe the "service spiders" will make an appearance at your house!

(Sorry, I was going to post a picture of some plastic spiders, but they kept creeping me out!)
