Living Christmas Tree

What a neat idea! I guess with all the eco-friendly issues these days, it only makes sense... This year, instead of going out and buying a cut tree for your Christmas decorations, how about a living Christmas tree? It comes with the roots intact so that when the holidays are over and you take your ornaments off, you can plant it. It's not only eco-friendly, but kind of neat to keep a little bit of Christmas with you year-round. And if you're extra-holiday-spirited, you can even decorate it as an outdoor tree in the following years!

Living_christmas_tree.jpg wikiHow has a good article to prepare you for buying your first living tree, so if you're considering it, be sure to check it out. It addressed issues such as:

1. Planning ahead - such as making sure you buy before the ground freezes, making sure your type of tree and region are compatible for planting this time of year, and making sure the tree will fit where you plan to plant it.

2. Shop around - self explanatory

3. Inspect your tree - tells you what to look for in a good tree

4. How to dig the tree yourself - if you get it from a tree farm

5. How to handle a live tree

6. Handy Tips and Warnings

I have to admit, I don't think we'll be doing a live tree, mainly because we're surrounded by forest already and are trying to claim a little bit of yard for our son to play in, and because it sounds like more work than we are willing to commit to. (I know, we're not as eco-minded as we should be, but time is a precious commodity for us!) However, it does sound like a great idea, so be sure to give it a thought when choosing your tree!
