One of the things about Halloween that's not so great is the scads of left-over Halloween candy. If you're lucky to be able to control your kids so they don't eat it all within days of Halloween, you're likely to have candy left over for a while. And of course you've got to consider that you'll probably get at least some candy that your kids don't like, meaning that there's still going to be some leftovers. So, what do you do with it all? Inside Motherhood has some really great ideas about what to do with it.
With suggestions like taking it to upcoming birthday parties, take it to the office, or donating it, there are some good ideas to check out. I'm trying to decide what to do with all the candy we got this year at our house! I was actually good and didn't buy any of the "after-Halloween" leftover candy from the store (a big accomplishment for me!) but we still have a LOT from trunk-or-treat and the trip to the mall we took on Halloween night. Since our son is not quite two, there's a LOT of that candy he can't have.
You know, that's another topic, but I never really thought about how un-toddler-friendly most Halloween candy is... Anyway, since he got a lot of Tootsie Rolls, Laffy Taffy, and Blow-Pops - none of which he can have, I'm not really sure what to do with it all. I certainly don't need to eat all that candy, and none of those are even appetizing to me anyway - thank goodness! So, maybe I'll take Inside Motherhood's suggestions. I especially like the "take it to the office" suggestion. Even though I don't work at the office any more, I do go by and visit my old office pretty regularly. A quick stop by the breakroom would be easy enough, and I know for a fact that stuff that's left with a "take me!" sign gets gone really quickly!
So how about you - how do you get rid of unwanted leftover candy? Do you just toss it all or do you have a better suggestion?
