Fair hours, wages and benefits aren't new issues for today's workers. They are, however, some of the big reasons we celebrate Labor Day. Although many of us take the holiday for granted and enjoy the long weekend as our last hurrah before the fall sets in, Labor Day has a history that tells a very different story.
When you think about the work conditions and the wages (and even the child labor) of years past, it makes us appreciate that we have the jobs we do - even if we aren't crazy about the work! I mean, how many of us have been part of a union strike that led to injuries and riots? Thank goodness for those who came before us and paved a way for better working conditions.
So go out and enjoy your long weekend - and make sure to take a moment to be thankful for all we do have!
