Are you planning a get together for Labor Day? Maybe a picnic at the local park or a trip to the lake? How about grilling out in the backyard? That's one of my family's favorites - cooking on the grill. The only problem we seem to have when we do grill is that we cook too much and have so much food left over for later. Typically this isn't such a big problem, except that most of the time steak doesn't reheat but so well...
My husband has really taken to grilling - it's one of his favorite ways to cook and favorite types of food to eat. I just recently purchased a grill basket from a friend that sells Pampered Chef, so I'm looking forward to trying out some grilled shrimp. Also, we ordered some new seasoning mix from her as well, so this gives him some new spices to try also. He's a big fan of trying new flavors - some of which aren't as big a hit as others, but most often he has a good nose for what will taste good!
Our typical "family grill buffet" includes steak, chicken, pork, hot dogs for the kids, and occasionally some kid of fish. You can imagine that since when we grill it's usually just my husband and myself along with my parents and my two nephews and our son (count = 4 adults, 3 kids), that we have a ton of food! Wen we rill at my grandmother's, the amount of food matches the people count better, but there's still leftovers. We just have a habit to overdo it when it comes to food - if you couldn't tell!
My personal favorite is barbque chicken, although I prefer the boneless, skinless chicken breasts to bone-in chicken. That and a good, well cooked and seasoned steak! Throw in some fresh corn on the cob and some flaky biscuits - yum! (I'm making myself hungry!)
In case you're new to grilling or want to host a larger group than you're used to, check out some of these grilling tips and advice. There are recipe suggestions, tips for hosting a block party, even some grilling charts to help you make sure you don't over-cook anything.
Oh, and when you're done cooking the main course, don't forget to have the marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers on hand to make S'mores!
