Thanksgiving in Canada falls on the second Monday in October. This year Thanksgiving is Monday, October 8th.
Up in Canada we tend to celebrate a good harvest as opposed to those south of us that celebrate the whole pilgrim scene. We do share most of the same Thanksgiving celebration themes though - big meal, gathering, giving thanks...
Is there a better time of year to gather with your family and friends? The air is chilly, the leaves are colourful, the moon is big and all of that says to me that it's time to bake a big turkey, maybe some ham, too.
Thanksgiving conjures up juicy turkey layered with cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes smothered in homemade gravy, sweet potatoes made sweeter with brown sugar, fresh brussel sprouts drenched in butter, warm dinner rolls and pumpkin pie with fresh whipped topping.
And if you're not looking forward to conversing with your deadbeat uncle or alcoholic sister, I say, suck it up, because the food is usually worth a bit of annoying conversation from the relatives you try to avoid the rest of the year...and it means alot to your mom to see everyone together...plus you might score some leftovers...
Happy Holidaying,

I just found this out myself, thought I would share :)
The very first Thanksgiving celebration in North America took place in Canada when Martin Frobisher, an explorer from England, arrived in Newfoundland in 1578. He wanted to give thanks for his safe arrival in the New World. This means the first Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated 43 years before the pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts!
