It's July 1st - let's celebrate!

Summer is in full swing, it's almost too hot to enjoy being outside, but thankfully the pools are open and the ice-cream shops are too! The 4th of July is just days away, and we've got a lot of planning to do to get ready. But in the meantime, let's not forget some of the other holidays that are coming this week!

Tuesday is Build a Scarecrow Day. Sounds kind of weird, considering scarecrows are mainly associated with fall, but when you consider their job is to keep crows out of your garden, it makes sense that they actually appear much earlier than the fall season. Considering all I have is a little patch of barely-there broccoli (a first attempt at a garden), I really don't have much need for a scarecrow. If I ever do have the garden of my dreams, maybe I'll break out the supplies and celebrate this day, but until then I guess I'll have to just stick to enjoying my scarecrows in the fall.

Going right along with the heat is the Creative Ice-Cream Flavors holiday that also falls on July 1st. I recently went to a restaurant called Cheeburger Cheeburger - don't know why they decided to spell "cheeseburger" wrong, but hey, whatever. The point is that other than having pretty good cheeseburgers, they have a list of flavors for their milkshakes that you wouldn't believe. I think their menu boasted that there were 378,000 flavor combinations. It was incredible.

Also, we shouldn't forget that July 1st is also Canada Day - which is kind of their version of July 4th. It's described as "a celebration of Canadian nationalism, heritage and pride." It was originally called Dominion Day, and was changed to Canada Day in 1982. (The holiday dates to July 1st, 1867 when Canada became self-governing.) Hurray for Canada - happy July 1st!

Last but not least, the first is also International Joke Day - so be prepared. Although it's not technically the same as April Fool's Day, for those who decide to celebrate this holiday, there may not be much difference!

Have a great Tuesday and enjoy all the great things to celebrate!
