It's Beer What Day?

Are you ready for two more odd holidays? Today, January 24th, is Beer Can Appreciation Day and Compliment Day! Now before you get all into the Beer Day – don’t forget to add the two other words in between – it’s not Beer Day or Beer Appreciation Day, but Beer CAN Appreciation Day.

Yep, today celebrates the day in 1937 when beer was first sold in cans. Yeah, I know it’s odd, but apparently there are a lot of people out there who are beer can collectors. Not only do they keep the beer cans, but they also take great pains to open the can from the bottom and wash it out once the beer is gone to keep their collection intact and clean.

On the other hand, Compliment Day is pretty self-explanatory. The whole point of this holiday is to offer sincere compliments to the people around you. The recommended number of compliments to give out today is at least five. This holiday was started in 1998 by two ladies in NH. How many people can you compliment today? And yes, you should probably wait to celebrate “Beer Can Day” until after you’ve finished your compliments – there’s no telling what you might say to someone if you’ve had a little too much celebration…
