Indy 500 Day

I'm not a fan of racing (all that wasted fuel!) but I know I'm in the minority. Today is the running of the 91st Indianapolis 500, a car race that brings hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world to watch cars careening around and around a track at ridiculously high speeds for 500 hundred miles. Did you know they go well over 200 miles per hour around the 2.5 mile track. This is such a guy's sport!

Although, this year is the first where 3 women are racing. Danica Patrick, the first women to race in the Indy 500 is racing, as well as two other women, one American and one Venezualian. In what used to be totally a men's sport, it's interesting to see women taking part in such a dangerous pastime.

Driving the pace car is Gray's Anatomy star Patrick (McDreamy) Dempsey. Chris Daugtry of American Idol fame entertained the crowd before the race began. There was a flyover of the Blue Angels, and then the race begins with: Start your Engines!
