Everyone knows that a big box of chocolates is a great Valentine's Day tradition, but how about those of you that like to make homemade edible gifts. Not everyone is cut out to be a chocolatier, although chocolate making supplies are easily found at crafts stores like Michaels.
What about if you want something a big different, but still delicious and a definate way to romance your sweetheart on this special day of love?
Chocolate coated pretzel rods
Dip pretzels in white melted chocolate and then lay on wax paper and sprinkle with red candy hearts. Red sprinkles, red jimmies, anything valentine related. You can also do the opposite, dip in red colored chocolate and use white sprinkles. I actually saw kit for this project at JoAnne Fabrics, but it seemed easy enough not to purchase a kit.
Valentine's Day Cookies and Cake
Yes, we're all still recovering from all the cookies we ate over Christmas, but by mid-February we should have worked off all those extra calories just in time to make some delicious baked goods. You can make Butter or Vanilla cookies and decorate with red icing, write little messages of love on them, or decorate with silver balls and pretty red and white decorative icing. Serve on a pretty white doily on a beautiful antique platter.
What about making a heart shaped cake (using heart shaped cake pans) and ice a sweet personal message on it. For an extra special touch, deliver it to your loved ones work for morning tea along with a dozen red roses. What a lovely way to show your love.
Make a large cookie with your loves favorite recipe, or shortbread, decorate it with red, white and silver decorations and wrap it in home made gift wrap with little messages of love.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Dip some strawberries in melted chocolate and allow them to set, then sprinkle some white icing sugar on them. Place them in a heart shaped box or basket and share with your loved one for a sweet picnic.
