Holidays for the second week of August

This week's holidays include several that honor families and one holiday that seems to claim multiple days. Check it out!

August 11: Presidential Joke Day
Son and Daughter Day

August 12: Middle Child's Day

August 13: Left Hander's Day

August 14: National Creamsicle Day
V-J Day

August 15: V-J Day
Relaxation Day

Monday and Tuesday celebrate children with Monday's "Son and Daughter Day" and Tuesday's "Middle Child Day." Although sometimes it seems like every day is a day to celebrate my son, I suppose with a holiday for mothers, one for fathers, for grandparents, and a slew of other family holidays, it only makes sense to have a specific holiday to celebrate our kids! And those poor middle children - they always seems stuck in the middle! Tuesday they get a day to shine all on their own!

And then there's V-J Day, which seems to run from the 14th to the 15th, and sometimes even is celebrated on September 2nd! V-J Day is Victory Over Japan Day, or Victory In Japan Day, and it's a holiday that celebrates the end of WWII. (End of wars - always a thing to celebrate!) The reason for the confusion is that officially, the 14th is the day Japan cabled the US to announce their surrender. The 15th is the day it was announced around the world. September 2nd is the day President Truman declared as V-J Day, and an a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri.
