Okay, so you've gotten your wife a a Mother's Day gift from your kids, but what about your gift to her? This is the woman you love, who takes care of your family and keeps everything running. Maybe the house isn't always spotless, and sure, maybe dinner isn't always on time, but the kids are still there at the end of the day, right? And if your wife works outside of the home, well, that just deserves even more of a celebration!
But what do you get her? Chocolates are always a plus, but if she's been on, is currently on, or has been talking about going on a diet, maybe they're not the best bet. Flowers are always beautiful, but they wilt so soon... Jewelry is also nice, but maybe impractical due to her job (for example, many nurses are limited as to what they can wear), or her kids (for example, a toddler or infant that wants to pull on the shiny pretty things). So where does that leave you?
Let me give you guys a hint. Time - it's all about time. I would bet that most women would love to have the gift of time. Whether it's time with the family or time away from the family, only you can tell best which is what your wife wants and maybe needs! But the bottom line is still the same.
So many women are wrapped up in the needs of their families and jobs that they don't have a lot of time for themselves, and when they do, they feel guilty about taking any free time they have for themselves. There's always something else around the house that needs to be done, or more quality time to spend with the kids. It's a vicious, never-ending circle, but it's one that most women can't seem to get out of! Mental health professionals will tell you that everyone needs a little down time, or "me" time, so why not make sure mom gets some of that this year for Mother's Day! (Hey, ultimately it'd be nice to get that once a week, but we'll settle for whatever you can give us!)
Take the kids to the park for a few hours after fixing her breakfast in bed. Let her know in advance that she's going to have the whole day to herself so she can plan something nice for herself. Or, if you know your wife really well, book her a spa day or a manicure at her favorite salon. Make sure she knows that today is a day for no laundry, dishes or cooking, and treat her to a nice dinner as well. I'm sure she'll be extremely surprised - and pleased! (If you can't cook, acknowledge that fact and take her out!)
Or, if your family is always running in different directions, maybe mom would benefit more from a day spent with just the family. If you do this, make sure the kids know ahead of time that today is for mom, so NO nagging about wanting to go to a friend's house or complaining that whatever mom wants to do is boring. There's nothing pleasant about spending a day with a whining, complaining kid! She probably does that enough!
Time is a gift that you can give that doesn't cost anything, but really says that you care. So give mom some love and if you can, some time this Mother's Day!
