Happy Spring!

I am SO ready for spring. I can’t tell you how happy I am that the cold weather seems to have lost its grip and is giving way to warmer days. Even though I know it means the start of the not-so-fun allergy season, there’s just something about springtime that is undeniably great. The trees are starting to show signs of life again, my irises are coming out, my pretty whatchamacallit yellow flower bushes are blooming, and I can wear short sleeves!

I guess it’s only fitting that March 25th is the official first day of spring. I’m still having trouble with it getting light so early, but I guess since I’m up so early with the baby, it might as well be daylight! And I’m not too fond of the bees (or other insects) that the warm weather has brought out. And sure, it’s frustrating to look out my window at the yard of dirt and rocks, thinking that now that I’m staying at home every day I could be out doing something with the yard, but knowing that I’ve got a baby that can’t be left inside by himself, and wouldn’t tolerate being outside for too long! Sigh.

But, at the same time, I can’t help but think about how quick the time will go and soon, I’ll have a little boy who’s going to be running around outside, enjoying the weather with me! My yard can wait a while, and I can find ways to enjoy being outside with my son now that will give us both a chance to enjoy the springtime. Okay, so he’s not really enjoying riding in the stroller, but we’ll figure something out!

In the meantime, while I don’t really need a specific day to celebrate the start of spring, it’s nice to have an official day to mark the change. Forget about the whole scientific part – the vernal equinox and all – just enjoy the weather. Hopefully it will be beautiful and you can get out and really have some fun!
