Happy Doughnut Day!

KK glazed donut.jpeg Hurray for breakfast pastries! Today is National Doughnut Day, or Donut Day, however you prefer to spell it... One of the really neat things about this holiday is that many doughnut places are giving away a free doughnut to each customer (some seem to have a "buy a coffee" stipulation, but still it's kind of nice). Just be sure to check with your local establishment before expecting to score a free treat.

Doughnut Day was originally set to honor the Salvation Army "Lassies" of WWII who were sent to the front lines to cook homemade food for the service men. Many times one of the things they would cook were doughnuts - in the men's helmets! These Salvation Army women were the only women (other than military personnel) allowed to the front lines.

Doughnut Day is always celebrated the first Friday in June (wow, it's June already), so don't miss out on your chance at a free doughnut! Forget that diet for today - besides, the places that are giving away doughnuts are limiting it to one per person, so take the stairs up and down a few times at the office and enjoy a special treat!
