Happy Babbling Day!

Now this is a holiday I can celebrate! It really helps that I've got a toddler running around the house!

Today's holiday, Babbling Day, celebrates people who talk - nonstop - and often gibberish. That pretty much covers most all toddlers, so maybe I should consider every day a babbler's day at our house! I try to work with our son on words, but let's face it, life is hectic, and unfortunately, as much as I'm a talker myself, I'm not very good at the "narrative talking" that they say that parents should do. You know, the whole "mommy is doing the laundry. Look at me fold the pants. These pants are daddy's pants. The legs of the pants are loonnngg..." Surely you've seen some of the commercial like this. Sure, it makes good sense to explain what you're doing, and study after study says that kids learn by example, but as much as I try, I just can't get into the habit.

So, as my son learns his words a little at a time, we're still in the babbling stage. We've got the basic, most important words down, you know, things like "ball, cheese, juice, car," and "doggie," among various others, and I'm proud to say, he also knows his "please" and "thank you," although it comes out more like "peas" and "dang do" but hey, it gets the job done! There are still SO many times that I wish that I could understand what he's telling me. I do a lot of guessing, and sometimes I seem to get it right, others, well, let's just say that I'm not the only one who gets frustrated!

But, until we're both on the same conversational level, Babbling Day is something we'll have to endure, I mean, celebrate, here at our household. And hey, it's just one of the many steps as he continues to grow up - and wow, is it happening fast!
