Happy August!

Forgive me for missing a few weeks, but we had a "holiday" of our own here at my house. We just got back from vacation, although I'm not sure you can have a "vacation" with a toddler! Also, I don't know that this was really a vacation as far as the term goes, since we only went because my husband had a business trip and we tagged along.

We spent a few days in Williamsburg, VA while my husband went to a conference, and let me give you a heads up in case you're thinking about going - if you have a toddler or young baby or child, you may want to rethink the choice! Williamsburg is neat, I'll give it that, but it's not toddler-friendly. Since the buildings have been kept in their authentic state, a lot of them don't have easy access to strollers (or wheelchairs for that matter!) Since my husband was in conferences all day, that meant I could either carry our son around, since he's not really good at staying with me, or I could wrestle the stroller up steps and through narrow doorways. Neither of which sounded very appealing to me considering it felt like 100 degrees outside and I'm four months pregnant.

Also, pretty much all the restaurants on the Williamsburg campus are very expensive and since my son is pretty much into chicken nuggets and french fries, their menus were not very child-friendly. Well, if your kid eats hamburgers and cheeseburgers, the may do okay.

We were so close it didn't make sense not to go, and it proved to be a great decision. At home, our son won't even get into the kiddie-pool we have that's only about four inches deep. But, there's just something about the beach! He wasn't too thrilled about having the water wash up on him, but there were a few little "pools" that someone else had dug before us and built up sand-walls around to keep the water in - he loved them! It made the two-hour out-of-the-way drive SO worth it!

ice cream at beach.jpg Before we left to come back home, we walked along the boardwalk and got some ice cream, which finished the trip off nicely. The trip home was nice, with peaceful naps and content chatter and play with his stuffed dog and somewhat noisy car to play with.

Anyway, we're back home and ready to get back into the swing of every-day normal life - if there is such a thing with a toddler! I hope you all have as much fun, if not more, on your vacations as we did. Enjoy what's left of the summer, it's coming to a close much too quickly!
