Well, Halloween is officially over and I am exhausted! I started the day out running and didn't stop until it was really, really over. I wonder how crazy it's going to be when my son is actually old enough to put in his two cents about what he wants to do and where he wants to go...
We ended up sticking to our original plan - pretty much anyway. I met up with my sister at Wal-Mart and then took the boys to our grandmother's to show them off. We did a quick run through my old office (which is NEVER quick), and then headed home. By the time we got there, her husband was already there, but I amazingly enough, I managed to get my son down for a much needed nap. We hit the church trunk-or-treat and the mall after that, and by the time we finished at the mall, my son was really, really done. He did pretty well considering his costume must have gotten hot and it included a headpiece. He only pulled it off a few dozen times! I also learned that the "bow-tie" on his costume was not sewn on, but was only threaded through a loop and could be pulled out. Who knew? Luckily we were able to catch it before it got gone, and it's now safely back with the costume.
I did find a costume to put together, although I couldn't help but feel a little conspicuous. But it was still a lot of fun! I felt like I should be going to a party instead of walking around with a baby that didn't even eat candy! I got the weirdest looks from people... but I'm so glad I did it. (Believe it or not, I pretty much had all this in my closet already - well, the outfit anyway... I knew that gothic style skirt with a train would come in handy someday!)
The sad news is that now that Halloween is over, we have a whole year until we can get all dressed up like this again. The good news is that I have a whole year to think about what I want to do now that I know I really enjoy the dressing up part! Now I just have to decide if I'm going to brave Wal-Mart tomorrow to get some of the good candy as it goes on sale... who needs to fit into their dress for a wedding anyway?
