I guess one of the big reasons for the "Christmas in July" phenomenon is to prompt us to get ready for the upcoming holiday season. I guess since the summer seems to be devoted to family vacations, it's a good thing that we don't have any major holidays crowding our calendar. Once October hits, it's the beginning of school, Thanksgiving, and Christmas one right after the other. (Ok, so the start of school isn't a holiday, but it can be just as hectic!) Somehow Thanksgiving and Christmas seem to run right into each other, and of course, let's not forget New Year's Eve following right on their tails!
Since I've become a work-from-home mom, I've been trying to find new recipes to try out. Since I'm at home more often, I feel like I'm more likely to give a new recipe a whirl. And since I think it's not a great idea to take a brand new dish to a family gathering, what better way to test out new things for the holidays than now? I've got plenty of time to perfect something I like and I don't have to worry about the embarrassment of a dish that doesn't quite turn out! (Come on, admit it, we've all had those dishes...)
ChristmasRecipes has hosted a blog carnival of recipes to check out. Divided into categories for easy reference, they have recipes for main dishes, drinks, candies, pies, cakes, cookies, and something I've always wanted to try, gifts in a jar. There are diabetic recipes, slow cooker recipes, the list goes on and on. And, since this is a blog carnival, there are links to countless other recipe sites! Don't miss out on this post - even if you dont find something on the main blog that calls your name, chances are you'll find something mouth-watering on one of the other sites. I think the Cinnamon Pancakes in a jar and the Strawberry Fudge balls are something I'm going to have to give a try... And how about Butterbeer - billed as a kid-friendly "drink using vanila ice cream, apple cider, butterscotch extract, and real butter."
