Don't forget to thank your teachers!

This week, but specifically tomorrow (Tuesday - May 6th), is National Teacher's Day. It's pretty self-explanatory - it's a day to show our appreciation to our teachers. Whether you send a card, bring in an apple, or a small gift, don't forget to let them know that we appreciate their dedication to our kids, and the hard work and dedication they have to their jobs. Unfortunately, in most areas, teachers are sadly underpaid for their work, and considering how important it is, we need to let them know that they aren't taken for granted.

At the National Education Association site you can check out to participate in the Nation's Largest Thank You card for teachers. Or, they've got a link where you can send a YouTube video message. Kind of neat. The card will be displayed as a mural that's 8 feet high and 50 feet wide.

Also, don't forget to thank those who may not bear the title "teacher" but who are just as invested in the education, care, and growth of your kids! Moms, this means you count also, because no one teaches your kids more than you do! They watch everything you do (as I'm finding out day after day...) and learn how life works in the real world, and these are the lessons most important for those little minds! For example, I unknowingly taught my son to open the trashcan. He's watched me do it several times and the other day I looked up from cooking dinner and there he was, walking across the living room, proud as a peacock with an opened, empty can of peas in his hand. He'd figured out that not only could he open and retrieve stuff from the trash, but his sippy cup fit right down inside the can of peas just right! Now I just need to teach him NOT to play in the trash!
