Chocolate Day!

Who needs an excuse to eat chocolate? (Certainly not me!) But just in case you're looking for that little excuse, July 7th is Chocolate Day. This is my kind of holiday!

I wish I could say that I indulged in my favorite sweets only on special occasions, but that would be a serious lie. Chocolate calls my name and I'm afraid I can't help but answer more often than not. It's kind of a running joke with my family: anytime we go out to dinner with my parents and the waiter comes to ask "has anyone saved room for dessert?" my dad always looks at me, grins, and says, "I know she did!" For Christmas, one of my husband's gifts to me was a box of Godiva chocolates. For Mother's Day, I got a box of chocolate-covered strawberries. See a pattern here?

I met a girl today in the checkout line who mentioned that she just wasn't into sweets. (This conversation came about because I was asking about a package of M&Ms in the checkout line...) She said that she loved fruits and veggies, and that she craved healthy food over sweet any day - and that candy actually turned her off, if you can believe it! How odd...

I think this one is pretty good: did you know that chocolate is a vegetable? It's made from ground, roasted cacao beans. What better way to get your vegetables? And, these days, chocolate has become not just a great treat, but works of art! I was at a chocolate shop just today and they had these gorgeous chocolates by Anna Shea, a professional chocolate artist! They are almost to pretty to eat - almost.

Holiday Insights has a great sugestion for how to incorporate chocolate into every meal, and snack, of your day.

Breakfast: Your favorite chocolate cereal along with two or three chocolate cream-filled donuts. Wash it down with a little hot chocolate.

Mid-morning snack: A chocolate candy bar(with or without nuts) to hold you over and give you a boost until lunch.

Lunch: A big tall glass of chocolate milk is a must along with your meal. Try a piece of chocolate pie or pudding for dessert.

Mid-Afternoon: Eat healthy(???) with some chocolate covered raisins. This contains both vegetable and fruit.

Dinner: If you are an adult, sip a chocolate liqueur before dinner. Chocolate flavored coffee is a must with dinner. Dessert is none other than chocolate cake.

Nighttime snack: Chocolate ice cream, of course!

So, whether it's Herseys or Godiva, make sure to enjoy your chocolate today!
