Chocolate covered raisins anyone?

chocolate raisins.jpg My son would be thrilled to find out that today is "National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day," that is, he would be if he understood what holidays were. I'm so glad he likes fruit, and I can completely understand his love for all things sweet seeing that he is my son. That's just to be expected. Although the fact that he gets up in the morning asking for cookies and pretzels for breakfast (by pretzels, he means the little chocolate covered pretzel balls that I bought on a whim a while back) doesn't make me very excited. He likes eggs and bacon, but sometimes it's hard to get him out of the "sweets" frame of mind.

Currently, I've been working on a box of Raisin Bran cereal myself - I've vowed to not buy any more cereal until what we've got in the cabinet is gone. So, although he does eat Raisin Bran himself, I've found that I could settle for "one scoop" of raisins instead of the "two scoops" the box claims to have, so I've started picking out some of the raisins for him to eat plain. They're not chocolate covered, but they might as well be - they're doused in sugar!

And, recently, I got him to try some yogurt covered raisins at Golden Corral, which after the initial "I'm not sure about this" reaction you'd expect from a two-year-old, he finally decided that they were a hit. Another snack that I'm not upset about - yogurt is okay, and raisins are too, so we're both happy! Now I guess I need to take a moment to introduce the chocolate covered variety...

Something tells me they're going to be a big hit!
