Changing Christmas traditions

Well, it’s Christmas Eve and we’re counting down the hours until Christmas morning. Even out of town, away from home, there are some things that don’t change no matter where you are, such as lights around town and Christmas music playing on the radio and in any store you go into. The thought of sleeping in an odd bed, in a strange place doesn’t seem so bad when you’re surrounded by family.

Even though I tend to be a little bit caught up in wanting to have things planned out and just so, obviously it’s easier to make exceptions when a guest in someone else’s home. And it helps that we couldn’t be in a friendlier place – surrounded by family who have willingly given up their space and have opened not just their home and refrigerator to us, but have welcomed us so completely that we feel bad for not visiting them more often!

Still, it’s hard, and a little sad, to be away from my family during the holidays. After all, I’ve still been a daughter longer than a wife. But, we’ve learned over the past few years that as family dynamics change, so must our traditions and plans. So, this year I embrace the change and look forward to seeing what new traditions we can start of our own!
