Champagne tips for your New Years toast!

champagne_newyears.jpg Want to celebrate the New Years festivities with a traditional bottle of the bubbly but not sure where to start? Check out these fab tips for choosing the perfect bottle of Champagne and impress your friends with your knowledge of this luscious libation!

1. Champagne is in fact a type of Sparkling wine that is made in the Champagne region of France. Only Sparkling wine made in this region of France can be called Champagne so make sure you check the label before purchasing. Non-vintage Champagne (which is a blend of grapes gathered from at least two different year's harvests) will set you back anywhere from $10.00 to $250.00. Many "taste experts" agree that a $50.00-$75.00 bottle of Champagne is perect for welcoming in the new year!

2. Champagne does not go bad as long as it is stored in a cool, dark place. Refrigerate Champagne for 4-5 hours before serving (who wants to drink warm Champagne...yuck)!. Once the bottle is open store on ice to keep the temperature even.

3. The easiest (and cleanest) way to open Champagne is to remove the foil, untwist the wire mesh (usually 4-6 turns), grab the cork firmly with one hand, and twist the bottle with the other hand. The cork won't fly off or make a mess thus saving that lovely ceramic dog your Mother made you for Christmas and possibly even a friend's eye!

Cheers....here's to 2007!
