Celebrate with Oreos and a toothbrush!

This Tuesday, join me in celebrating at least one of these two holidays – they kind of go hand in hand – Oreo Day and Dentist Day! I think I’ll choose to celebrate the Oreos and maybe skip the Dentist… I just thought it was hilarious that March 6th happened to be both holidays. Considering that one can cause dental problems and one fixes them, it just struck me as ironic…

I absolutely love Oreos – cookies and cream ice cream, milk shakes, Oreo cheesecake, dirt cake, you name it! We celebrate Oreos this day because they went on sale for the first time ever March 6th in 1912. Their continued popularity today shows how much we love them! One of my most favorite recipes using Oreos is the dirt cake. It’s so easy and SO good. Check out the recipe and give it a try – if you like Oreos at all, you won’t regret it!

dirt%20cake.jpg DIRT CAKE
2 (20 oz.) pkgs. Oreo cookies
1/2 stick butter
1 (8 oz.) cream cheese
1 c. powdered sugar
3 1/2 c. milk
2 sm. French vanilla instant pudding boxes
1 (12 oz.) Cool Whip

Cream the butter, cream cheese and powdered sugar together. Mix pudding together with the milk, add the Cool Whip to pudding mixture. Then blend in with the cream cheese mixture.
Crumble the Oreo's in a blender, leave the cream in the Oreo's.

Alternate layers of cookie crumbs and filling, ending with the cookie crumbs on top. (You can even liven it up by using gummy worms or bugs, some people even go so far as to put it in a flower pot with **new, clean** silk flowers!)

The Dentist Day holiday, well, I just can’t get so excited about this one. Not only do I have a little, okay, a huge fear of dentists, but they’ve cost me so much over the years that I could probably put my son through college with what I’ve invested in my dental bills. Yes, I realize that this probably shows that I’ve enjoyed celebrating things like “Oreo Day” a little too much, but hey, you only live once. But I digress. The point of Dentist Day is:

1. to show off your pearly white smile
2. to show appreciation to your dentist for helping you have and keep that pearly white smile
3. to start, or maintain, good dental habits

So, this Tuesday, make sure to do two things if nothing else: have some Oreos and don’t forget to brush your teeth!
