In keeping with Baby Safety Month, here's another little site to check out...
If you're a parent, or grandparent, you're probably familiar with all the craziness about lead in children's toys and other such scares that can make crazy - and wary of anything you bring in your home. Since we all want the best for our kid and want to make sure we keep them safe, it can sometimes seem overwhelming when you've got one organization saying that such-and-such food isn't safe or this or that toy is dangerous. BabyCenter has made our work a little easier by providing a Product Recall Finder page.
With this site you can choose a category, such a high chairs or strollers, and a time frame. Or you can search by product or company name. This takes all the guesswork out of the question of whether or not the products you have are okay or not. Or if you'd rather, they've got a link to the most recent recalls.
I know that in our household we've only had two items that were in the questionable category, and one turned out okay and one did not. The good news is that the manufacturer offered a free replacement with the return of the old item, and there was no shipping costs.
Now some of the recalls are kind of silly - in my opinion. Things that get recalled because a child was hurt when they used the item unsupervised and in an inappropriate way aren't necessarily something that should be banned. I remember when there was this big deal about the Bumbo seats. I absolutely LOVED our Bumbo, and our son used it all the time. We never left him in it alone, and never on a high surface. (Okay, so once or twice we did put him on the kitchen table, but that was only when we were eating dinner right there - one of us on either side of him.) But when a baby was hurt because it fell out of the seat from a height and people wanted them to be recalled and discontinued, well, I'm just glad that they didn't pull them all from the shelves. Actually I intend to purchase two for shower gifts for some friends.
I guess the bottom line is that in so many things (just like life in general) we just need to use common sense. Even still, I guess if there's lead paint in your baby's teether, that's something we should definitely be made aware of! So if you've got any doubts, check out the list and ease your mind!

I said that they should have recalled those parents instead of the Bumbos!
