This Saturday is the ever famous Valentines Day. Even though I've been quite aware that it was coming, and I still have a week left to get ready, somehow I'm at a loss for what to do this year. I want to do something special for my husband - it's been a long year already, and we're only into the second week of January. But what do you do for the man who doesn't need anything, there's not a lot of disposable income to work with, and there are two kids to consider when trying to plan anything outside the home?
Even some of the thoughts I have that would work well for most people don't seem to fit our family... like fixing him a special breakfast - he's not an early riser and isn't a big fan of breakfast. Or just making a special dessert for him - he's not big on sweets. I could take him to dinner at our favorite resturant, but then I've got to find a babysitter, and then there's the added cost for childcare to go along with the cost of an expensive dinner... He isn't a fan of our local movie theaters, so going to see a movie is out.
I suppose I ought to focus on making his Valentine's Day special from our kids. My son is finally interested in actually using crayons for their intended purpose instead of just running around with them, so I'm sure I could get him to make a nice picture for his daddy. And our little girl, well, at 1 month old, I'm sure she'd be more than happy to pose for a picture to put on his desk! Also, I found these neat paint pens that I had our son color on a plain white coffee mug for a friend of ours (he broke her other mug) and his scribbles are actually a really great decoration! My husband even said that he thought they'd make great gifts - so maybe that should be my project.
As for me, well, I've got a card ready for him, and it's almost a perfect card, so maybe I'll have to settle for a nice cooked dinner in and a movie on the couch. Hey, we can put our son to bed early and I'll say a prayer that our little girl gives us time to enjoy Valentine's before she decides to start being needy or hungry!
