Are you having fun yet?

So, who had fun today at work? Anyone? Well, that's what today was all about - or so says Holiday Insights. In their list of "bizarre and unique" holidays, January 28th is Fun at Work Day.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, having a job that you would say is "fun" is definitely not the norm. Truth be told, most of us would probably say that we hate our jobs, but it's a necessary evil to pay the bills. So, having a day of fun every now and then doesn't seem too much to ask. I remember one office I worked in - every so often they would have "employee appreciation days" where they would order pizza for everyone for lunch. Sounds great, huh? Well, the downside of that was that a lot of the employees would feel as if running down to the breakroom to pick up a few slices of pizza counted as their lunch hour and then wouldn't take lunch. I couldn't help but think they were a little too dedicated to the company. I would always grab my free lunch and take it on the road. That meant I had a whole hour free to do whatever I wanted - without having to stop and eat! Hurray! Now that's what I call appreciation. (That is, if they're not going to say, give out a bonus or anything...)

So, even if you just took a few minutes to stare off into space and dream of your future vacation, or maybe you chatted with a friendly co-worker a little longer than usual during your break, I hope you got some joy out of your work today. If you are one of the few who are so lucky as to enjoy your job - congrats to you, and don't rub it in too much to those around you. They might just deck you.

Oh, and by the way, it was also National Kazoo Day. Weird, huh? Check out Ear Farm's post for a list of top 10 11 songs that feature a kazoo. Who knew there were so many?
