Are you a workaholic?

workaholic.jpg What a crummy thing to celebrate! I guess it's a good thing that today's holiday - Workaholic Day - is about breaking the cycle instead of actually celebrating being one! According to the Holiday Insights site, you call tell you're a workaholic if:

1. It's the Fourth of July weekend, and you are at work or brought home work.
2. You are working because "It's fun!" Yes, we've heard that one before.
3. You work because you want to, not because you need to. (yeah, right)
4. You are always the first one to work and/or the last one to leave.
5. It's Saturday, and you're working.
6. It's Sunday, and you're working.
7. You're last thoughts as you fall asleep are related to work.

Unfortunately, I have to say that in my family, my husband is guilty of just some of these things... Not by choice specifically, but by the nature of his job. Working in computers sometimes means that if there's a problem, he has to take care of it - regardless of what time it is. We haven't been able to take a vacation since he got his new job without him having to work at least a little while we were away. And since we have the benefit of living in the technology age, work often follows him home, and he can't get away from it. I'm sure this is nothing new for a lot of people today. Cell phones, pagers, laptops, internet, they all tie us to the office in ways we've never been before.

So, on that note, I think that Workaholic Day is a great idea. The purpose of today is to take the day off. Really and truly take the day and not work. I know, I know, easier said than done. If it's not work at the office, it's work at home. We're in the middle of several home improvement projects that take up a lot of our free time when we do have it! Oh well, I guess we've got to take what we can get. Enjoy your day and even if you couldn't benefit from the day off, make sure to take some time to take care of yourself and enjoy your family!
