A new Halloween tradition...

Well, after today, I think we've established a new tradition for Halloween at our house! Today was the day I hosted a playdate/Halloween party for the mom's group I'm a part of. With the help of my sister who is just awesome, we had a really great time. There were about 7 moms there (plus me makes 8) and about 10 kids - all toddler-age except for my oldest nephew who is almost 5. (I say about since I didn't technically get a real count...)

We started at 10:30 and everyone stayed until around 1:00 - so it was about a 2 1/2 hour event. Although I have to say I'm pretty tired right about now, it was definitely worth it, and I definitely want to do it again! My family in general tends to go overboard on food preparation for any gathering that requires it (and even some that don't!), so it's no real surprise that I've got leftovers. But hey, who's going to complain about leftover cupcakes? (Except maybe me when I'm trying to explain to my toddler that he can't have a cupcake before dinner...)

We had a breakfast casserole, chicken salad croissant sandwiches, rice crispie treats, sugar cookies, candy corn, goldfish crackers, animal cookies, cupcakes, hot apple cider, sweet tea, orange juice, milk, apple juice, coffee, and Dr. Pepper. I also made up goodie bags for everyone to take - one for the kids with little bags from the dollar store of animal cookies, raisins, a sheet of Halloween stickers, a baggie with one ghost and one pumpkin Halloween Peep each. For the moms I had a little bag with a small KitKat bar, a small Hershey's Dark Chocolate bar, a roll of Smarties, and a coupon for a small french fry from Burger King.

I've been planning this thing for weeks now, and now that it's over, I'm so glad we did it. It was a little crazy last night as I realized that I couldn't put off cleaning any more, but otherwise I'm looking forward to doing it again! And I have to report that I'm pretty proud of my little guy - he wasn't the best host considering he's not a very good sharer right now, but we're working on it. And there was even one time when I told him to give something back after he had taken it from another kid - AND HE DID! No screaming or anything!

By the time everyone left though, my little man was wiped out - and he was SO ready for his nap - as was I! Except for the fact that he'd been snacking on junkfood all morning and wouldn't eat a proper lunch, we didn't even have to fight about naptime, which was a nice plus. You can see by the photo how tired he looked! (By the way, how do you like his race-car-driver costume? He was ecstatic to have "CARS!!!" on it!)

So, except for the three baby showers, birthday party, and two doctor's appointments coming up beforehand, I can try to focus on Thanksgiving - which I think will be hosted at our home this year! Bring it on!
